In British Columbia, employees can agree to take paid time off instead of receiving overtime wages, but only through a properly set up time bank. These arrangements must be requested in writing by the employee and cannot result in a loss of pay. In this video, Ascent lawyer Sean Marzinzik explains how time banks work, how overtime must be credited at the rate it was earned, and when banked wages must be paid out, including what happens when employment ends or a time bank is closed.
